L'egrappille E(J)OKA 2022
Auvergne, France
Gamay d’Auvergne, Hybrids
11.5% ABV.
Auvergne vigneron Catherine Dumora is one the great farmers and winemakers we have the pleasure of working with, and few things excite us more than welcoming new L’egrappille wines into the building.
This comes from gamay d’auvergne and hybrid varieties grown on Catherine’s ultra low-yielding and lovingly tended vineyard in the hills above Lamontgie. All of the fruit was direct-pressed to sandstone vats for fermentation and elevage, resulting in a pale pink wine with medium body, lots of youthful pulpy texture, restrained shades of red and white fruit, and some gently flinty curry leaf character from the protective style of handling adding intrigue and complexity.
The telltale minerality of the site shines through, with the vineyard planted over a unique mix of granite, schist, quartz and calcareous matter, but this wine also very much sings of beautiful, well-ripened fruit.
This is one of our favourite new wines and will do very nicely indeed over the warmer months.
