Can-Vi Blanc 2020
Catalunya, Spain
Macabeu, Parellada
11.5% ABV.
Can-Vi is a collaborative project between Jordi Llorens, Cristina Vaqué and Jordi Solé. Organic fruit is sourced from a handful of vineyards in Catalunya, near Tarragona and Conca de Barberà, vinified (in anfora, for the most part) and run to 375ml cans after elevage.
This is very lightly macerated parellada and macabeu, all grown on the arid limestone soils typical of the region. Stylistically, it will feel somewhat familiar to anyone that has tasted Jordi Llorens’ white wines, and probably most closely resembles Jordi’s Blan 5-7. It’s light to medium bodied, with restrained white fruit, salinity, a whisper of dissolved gas, and the round yet weightless shape which is so typical of wines grown in this hot but calcareous terroir.
One of these cans pours two generous glasses of wine. They’re very satisfying to drink and the format is particularly convenient when heading to the park. It’s also perfect for evenings when one fancies a glass or two with dinner but can’t commit to a whole bottle – or as a light aperitif before moving on to a bottle of something heavier.
We absolutely love having a few of these handy in the fridge at home!
