Jean Bouteille Machina 2023
Basket Range, South Australia
Tempranillo
12.4% ABV.
This comes from tempranillo from the certified-Biodynamic Mount Bera vineyard near Gumeracha in the Adelaide Hills, planted over clay and quartz.
The fruit was carbonically macerated for a week, then foot-stomped and left to macerate for a day before being pressed off. Fermentation and elevage took place in a mix of stainless steel and barrique.
This is light-to-medium in body and only gently extracted, with present yet very harmonised acidity, resulting in a style which works well with a bit of a chill. Both soil and the style of handling can all clearly be seen, with a fine, silken texture and pretty red fruit from the carbonic fermentation, as well as some earthen forest-floor and subtle regional eucalypt freshness.
Thanks very much Jean-Baptiste!
