Ratapoil Blanc 2023
Jura, France
Chardonnay, Savagnin
12% ABV.
Quiet achiever Raphaël Monnier and his partner Estelle have been working with a number of small plots in the Jura and neighbouring Doubs since 2009. Made from local varieties chardonnay, savagnin, poulsard and trousseau, the domaine’s bottlings are little-known in many corners of the wine world but championed by a select group of wonderful caves and bistros around France, and it’s a real pleasure to have them now available in Australia.
Ratapoil Blanc comes from a co-planted organic parcel of chardonnay, savagnin and local varieties seyvillard and rayon d’or, planted in the region of Buffard. All of the fruit was direct-pressed into barrel for fermentation and elevage.
This is mineral, bright and fresh with a concentrated core of citrus and orchard fruit, nervy acidity and a very regional notion of salinity and umami.
