100% malbec from a 35-year-old parcel planted over alluvial soils and limestone bedrock, on a bend of the Lot River just outside of Cahors. We particularly love malbec when grown on these calcareous soils, where finesse and the inherent austerity of the variety are so well retained.
This was a cooler, slow-ripening and low-yielding year, resulting in a medium-bodied wine with plenty of flesh and freshness, with dark fruit and a savoury, stalky back-palate.
A brilliant bottle and really superb value.
