Steen & Blauert Petillant Natural 2021

A$130.00

Ardèche, France
Chardonnay, Viognier, Grenache
13.75% ABV.

Serious, classical and deliciously rich sparkling wine from Valvignères.

A blend of chardonnay, viognier and the very first juice from a direct press of grenache noir – all co-fermented in fibreglass before finishing fermentation in bottle and eventually being disgorged.

This is complex and resolved – more dry, layered and refined than what we might expect from a pet-nat style sparkling – with a lovely notion of sun-kissed ripeness at its core and very beautiful biscuity brioche character.

Anders is a captivating figure in the wine world. He worked as a sommelier at Noma in Copenhagen prior to establishing himself as a winemaker in the Ardèche with his partner Anne Bruun Blauert, and has since published some very insightful writing about his experiences tasting and making wine. The wines are thoughtfully made and always very memorable.
