Domaine la Bohème Lulu 2022
Auvergne, France
Gamay
12.5% ABV.
Patrick Bouju is a key figure in the story of organic, additive-free winemaking in the Auvergne, establishing his domaine in the early 2000s at a time when the community was in its embryonic stages. Today, he is one of natural wine’s most celebrated figures worldwide, loved equally for his distinctive wines and his famously shining personality.
Lulu comes from 80-year-old gamay vines planted in the volcanic, basaltic soil that makes this part of the world so compelling. The wine was vinified with a portion of whole bunches and saw elevage in a mix of barrel and amphora. There’s dark fruit, some spice from the stalks, a slick texture from the semi-carbonic handling and glorious concentration and depth from the old vines.
It’s a real pleasure to see these wines back in the country!
