Sylvain Leest farms a number of parcels in the village of Faverolles-en-Berry in the Central Loire, where he has been working since 2013. His plots are home to 14 different (and, largely, rare) varieties, as well as farm animals and other crops. A large part of his production has always been sold to esteemed sparkling wine producer Les Capriades, but over the years, he has devoted more and more grapes to his own production of increasingly high-quality wines.
Feuilles Blanches is pure, tense and classical, with immediately apparent aromas of well-farmed calcareous soil. There’s a lovely interplay between the rich, slightly oily texture and the fresh, limestone-influenced acidity, creating a wine that is overall very nicely balanced.
A serious offering from a rising star.
